Applications Of Slip Form Construction
Slip form construction
technique is the most appropriate substitute for the conventional formwork
system that helps in horizontal and vertical construction. The slip form
facilitates the process of constant pouring of the concrete to the moving
framework. The process ceases when the estimated length of the casting is
finished. Slip form construction is
the primary technology involved to develop tall towering structures.
How Is It Formed?
The
slip form framework is framed continuously in the vertical direction. It is
essential to construct the core walls of high-rise structures like- towers,
lift shafts, and stair shafts. It requires little crane-time during its
construction since it is a self-contained formwork system. Any regular shape
can be erected with this formwork system. The rate of growth of the formwork is
300mm per hour with its support and doesn't require any reinforcement for
establishing the structure. There are three possible platforms in the formwork.
The upper platform will offer storage and distribution area. The middle the platform will provide the leading working platform while the lower platform
will offer access to concrete finishing.
Advantages Of Slip Form Construction
Slip form construction
can yield higher production rates, unlike any other construction technique. It
has minimal crane usage as it doesn't require the crane to move upwards. The
required formwork is an essential component of the concrete structure
construction so that it retains the concrete and takes the requisite desirable
shape and acquires the necessary strength to hold the tower. The significant
advantage of slip form construction is that it can be erected just once and it
will remain intact until the whole structure is finished. The cost and time
taken for the development of the formwork are reduced a lot as there is a need for
re-erection. The workforce requirement is continuously distributed, and the
labor costs are drastically distributed.
Components Of Vertical Slip Form
When
the wall foundation has been accurately laid, and a starter for the walls has
been laid in correct alignment along with all the steel for the walls inaccurate positions then a slip form assembly can be formed. Now the starter is
aligned with the slip form shuttering
with the aid of yokes on either side of the shuttering. It will help to keep
the panels in the correct position. The horizontal crossbeams will connect the
yokes. The horizontal crossbeams are fixated to hydraulic jacks to facilitate
simultaneous movement and hence, the entire slip form shuttering moves upward. The height of slip form shuttering is found to be
typically between 1.1 m to 1.5 m. The horizontal crossbeams and yokes form the
supporting structure for the working platform that carries men and material.
Applications Of Slip Form
High
Rise Structures- The slip form construction technique can be used to develop the
vertical structure through the reinforced concrete section to construct tall
rise building structures. The building and structures that possess regular
shape can be quickly built through this formwork.
Chimney -The
tapered slip forms like cooling towers, chimneys and piers can be easily
constructed using the slip form
construction technique. This technique aids in creating vertical structures
of any shape, wall thickness, or diameter.
Steel
Tanks- The massive volume cisterns in factories and
industries can be laid out with a slip
form construction technique.
Water
Towers- The uniform walls of the water tank can be
constructed with the help of slip form
construction technique. It can help to develop tanks of a capacity of
thousands of gallons.
